Beach access tracks are exposed to constantly changing conditions. Unstable ground, water and vehicle traffic can quickly challenge conventional surfaces.
At Manning Point, New South Wales, Articulated Concrete Loop Block Mats were used to create a durable and reliable access track through the dunes and onto the beach.
The access track at Farquhar Inlet and the adjacent beach provides an important route for 4WD vehicles. The solution needed to provide a stable driving surface while accommodating the natural contours and movement of the coastal environment.
Robusta's articulated concrete block mat technology combines the strength of concrete with the flexibility of a woven textile structure. The interconnected concrete blocks allow the mat to follow the underlying terrain, making it particularly suitable for applications where ground conditions are challenging or subject to movement.
For the Manning Point project, 120 mm and 220 mm block mats were installed and secured using cable clamps and galvanised U-bar anchors.
The result is a robust, flexible access surface designed to withstand demanding coastal conditions while providing improved vehicle access to the beach.
The project was completed by Saltwater Earthmoving for MidCoast Council. Feedback from the local community highlighted the significant improvement in access, particularly when driving on and off the beach.
